Awareness Through Movement® (ATM)
“Nothing is permanent about our behaviour patterns except our belief that they are so”
– Moshe Feldenkrais
Group lessons of the Feldenkrais® method are called Awareness Through Movement® (ATM).
They take place a quiet place, far away from everyday life stress, and normally last 45-50 minutes. During ATMs the VOICE of the Feldenkrais® teacher guides students through pleasant and unusual MOVEMENT SEQUENCES.
The teacher does not demonstrate any movement; he/she only verbally accompanies the person in the discovery of a personal and unique way of moving.
People are free to EXPLORE, TRY and PLAY with MOVEMENT VARIATIONS, so that they can recognise their own HABITS and find their own best option of movement.
The sequences of movement are based on the thousands of lessons Moshe Feldenkrais himself left us. Each of them is focused on specific themes and functions (balance, freedom of hip joints, agility, breathing, pelvis, spine, etc.) but they always address the person as a WHOLE (body, mind, feelings, sensations, thoughts).
Le CAM sono mirate a far conoscere meglio il proprio corpo, ad ascoltarsi, a sperimentare nuovi modi di muoversi e ad affinare la propria immagine di sé.
“If you know what you are doing, you can do what you want”
– Moshe Feldenkrais
ATMs will allow you to get to know and to listen to yourself better, to explore new ways of moving and to refine your self-image.
The focus is on the QUALITY of movement, instead of on quantity, effort or repetitions. The aim is to DO LESS and REDUCE THE EFFORT, so that CURIOSITY can guide the exploration and the person can explore freely.
